SGR Repeal Passed by Senate; No ICD-10 Delay Included

CMS SGR Repeal with No ICD-10 Delay
The Senate passed the Medicare Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) repeal late Tuesday, leaving only a signature from President Obama to make it law. The President has indicated that he is eager to sign the bill, which is notable not only for what it includes but for what it does not include—namely, another delay of ICD-10. The new legislation not only eliminates the annual 21 percent Medicare payment cut that has hung over doctors’ heads since 1997, but also makes value-based reimbursement the new model for Medicare reimbursement. The SGR repeal includes a […] Continue Reading

ICD-10 Deadline Delay Unlikely; SGR Fix Delayed But Likely

The ICD-10 deadline is set for October 1, 2015—but will it stick? The deadline has been pushed out twice before, of course, and industry experts are holding their collective breath waiting to see whether Congress will once again delay implementation of the new code set. The House overwhelmingly approved a fix for Medicare’s Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) without any change to the ICD-10 deadline, which was a relief to those hoping to implement ICD-10 this year. But then the U.S. Senate adjourned for a two-week recess on March 27 without acting on […] Continue Reading

Breaking News: CMS Finalizes Oct 1, 2015 as ICD-10 Deadline Date

ICD-10 deadline
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced late Thursday that Oct. 1, 2015, is the new ICD-10 deadline date for providers and payers to transition to the new code set. The announcement, while expected, came after months of waiting. The announcement reiterated CMS’ view that ICD-10 is needed by stating that  ICD-9-CM contains “outdated, obsolete terms that are inconsistent” with current medical practices, adding that ICD-10 represents “a significant change.” Marilyn Tavenner, CMS Administrator, said in a statement that “ICD-10 codes will provide better support for patient care, and improve disease […] Continue Reading

ICD-10: What Should You Do Now?

Now that the dust has settled from the ICD-10/SGR fix battles, you are probably wondering what it all means to you and what you should do now. We advise, as many experts have, that you can relax—a little—but don’t stop your preparations for the ICD-10 start date. In a recent webinar presented by Deloitte, experts advised that when ICD-10 was delayed from 2013 to 2014, many organizations that stopped their preparations experienced significant difficulty regaining momentum. So, take a breath—but keep moving forward. In a CMS MLN Connects call on June 4, […] Continue Reading

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) recently announced the results of the ICD-10 testing week conducted this past March, and HealthFusion is pleased to announce that our testing results were in the upper ranks of those testing. CMS said that testers submitted more than 127,000 claims with ICD-10 codes to the Medicare Fee-for-service (FFS) claims systems and received electronic acknowledgements confirming that their claims were accepted. “Approximately 2,600 participating providers, suppliers, billing companies and clearinghouses participated in the testing week, representing about five percent of all submitters,” said Niall Brennan, […] Continue Reading
