If you’re planning to participate in one of the Meaningful Use Stage 2 public health measures as part of your attestation in 2015, CMS reminds you that the deadline to register with your public health agency (PHA) is March 1, 2015. The measure requires that you notify your PHA or other body to whom the information will be submitted of your intent to initiate ongoing submission of information within 60 days of the start of your EHR reporting period. CMS has announced that it is extending the deadline for eligible professionals to attest to Meaningful Use for the 2014 reporting year from Feb. 28 to March 20, 2015. CMS says that EPs now have until 11:59 PM ET on March 20 to comply with the EHR attestation deadline. CMS also announced that the EHR reporting option for PQRS has been extended to March 20, 2015. Good News for Meaningful Use Providers: CMS to Reduce Meaningful Use Reporting Requirements for 2015

CMS announced today that they are reducing the reporting burden on providers for Meaningful Use in 2015, much to the relief of providers and hospitals. CMS said in its blog post that they are considering proposals to: Realign hospital EHR reporting periods to the calendar year to allow eligible hospitals more time to incorporate 2014 Edition software into their workflows and to better align with other CMS quality programs. Breaking News: CMS Extends Meaningful Use Hardship Exception Application Period to November 2014

CMS has just announced that it will reopen the submission period for hardship exception applications for eligible professionals and eligible hospitals to avoid the 2014 Medicare payment adjustments for failing to successfully attest for Meaningful Use. November 30, 2014, is the new deadline, according to the announcement issued today. The previous deadline was July 1, 2014, for eligible professionals and April 1, 2014 for eligible hospitals. The release of CMS’ Final Rule on Meaningful Use Flexibility for certified EHR technology on August 28 provided some relief to medical practices for 2014–but not for 2015. Vendors and providers were glad to see some flexibility in the rule, specifically whether a 2014 or 2011 edition could be used for attestation in 2014. CMS recognized that many providers were unable to “fully implement” 2014 Edition Meaningful Use software in 2014.
